Pfft. Yeah as long as it fits in universe and isn't garbage it's ok. It's gotta be believable though. A lot of it is so good it beats what Disney is doing by far.

And what is garbage then, when it seems like the public at large regards anything with AI in it to be "AI garbage?" I've been accused of making "AI garbage" on multiple occasions, even though I have stated ad nauseum that I never fully use AI in my work. It just shows the arrogance of people that judge things at first glance without even trying it out first.

I value a well-made production. I try to do that in the audiofics I put together, to the best of my ability. I can't trust AI to do it all, nor would I. AI simply cannot tell the story I want to tell, nor can it in the way I want to tell it. But I do use it on occasion to assist me with making an audio production, never to fully do it for me.

Some of these AI fanfilms are really good, sure. But again, I take issue with 1) it being fully rendered by AI, and 2) the content creator taking credit for a production that was not fully produced by the content creator. I also take issue with the impact that AI has on actors, filmmakers, and even hobbyists like me.

To put it bluntly, AI is dampening any listener interest in what I do, and the few people on this forum after one year of existence is further evidence of that. I continue to do what I do as a hobby because I enjoy it. And I had hoped to pass my love for fan audio onto others by allowing others to participate in a community based around it and family-safe fanfiction.

I will keep things going, regardless if what I do is seen by others as "garbage" or not.

What is HoloNet Audio?
HoloNet Audio is a collection of quality audio fanfiction from Star Wars and Star Trek, presented in an audiobook format. The platform features a mix of fanfiction narrations, comedy sketches, and other audio content, all family-friendly and suitable for fans of the two iconic sci-fi franchises. The narrations are produced by a team of human and AI voices, with Joe Mignano and Megan Niessink being notable contributors. HoloNet Audio allows fans to publish their own fanfiction and submit short stories for audio production, making it a vibrant community for both creators and listeners. The platform is accessible through various podcast providers and social media channels, ensuring that the audio content is easily found and enjoyed by fans worldwide.

Why should I register for this forum?
If you are a fanfiction writer, or you just want to socialize with other fans of STAR WARS and STAR TREK, this is a safe place to do just that!  You can post your own fanfiction, request a short fanfic of yours to be turned into an audio production on the podcast, and have access to our hidden “Members Only” area, where you can participate in the FANFIC charity project, get club shirts, and even plan events!

What does “family-friendly” mean?
For the purpose of this forum, the term “family-friendly” means “acceptable in the presence of children.”  Minors are allowed to access this forum, with permission from a parent or guardian.  We pride ourselves here on being a family-friendly website, and we forbid “nsfw” content.

Is there a word limit to the fanfiction I want to post?
There is no word limit at all!  You can post your STAR WARS or STAR TREK fanfiction in the designated section of the forum by typing or copying/pasting into the text field of your post.  You can also attach a PDF, TXT, or Word document to your post! You can even attach images to your posts (or insert them in the post itself)  that support the story you are telling.  If you are attaching a file, such as a PDF, then there is a 10MB attachment limit.  If you are submitting a fanfic for audio production, then we ask that it be 3,000 words or less.

How can I listen or subscribe to HoloNet Audio?
You can listen right here on our website!  Just look for the “Latest Tracks” area by scrolling to the bottom of the home page or the forum index page.  You can also access our different playlists on the forum itself. You can subscribe and listen via your favorite podcast platform, including YouTube, Spotify, iHeartRadio, SoundCloud, Apple Podcasts, and others.

What is the FANFIC charity project?
FANFIC (Fanfiction Initiative for Charity) is an exclusive charity project that is designed for our members (people registered on the forum) to engage in.  We believe it is possible to utilize fanfiction to help with literary development, and we use fanfiction to help encourage creative writing skills. That encouragement is simply getting people interested in what we do - listening to and writing fanfiction!  The project itself is very simple, and involves no financial transactions whatsoever. We obtain an amount of blank 1GB USB flash drives (the only cost associated with the project), and then add selected HoloNet Audio tracks to it.  Then, we give them out!  Our target audience with the project is blind / visually impaired fans of STAR WARS and/or STAR TREK, but the flash drives may be given out freely to anyone. The idea is to entertain, encourage, and engage the imaginations of others.

Is this podcast monetized?
Not at all. HoloNet Audio does not earn any income whatsoever from the generation of episodes. This is purely a hobby for the enjoyment of the fanfiction writer(s), the audio producer, and those who listen to us.

Just like the Wars, Trek has some great fanfilms and even some extremely well-produced webseries.  Below are my favorites of all time.

This first entry is a feature-length fanfilm, "Of Gods and Men." There are a TON of Trek actors in this one, as well!

Below is a webseries that perfectly bridges the original series with The Motion Picture (1979).  STAR TREK: Continues is, imho, the best-produced fan-series ever made. There are 10 episodes, including a two-parter at the end (so, 11 episodes in total), which can also count as a movie. I say it is a must-see if you are a fan of the original series, like I am, and how it links TOS with TMP.

Here is a link to the playlist for STAR TREK: Continues on YouTube.

Feel free to post below in a reply any favorite Trek fanfilms you may have.

I've always said that fanfilms and fanfiction are both very similar, in that they allow the creator to immerse themselves in the story they are telling within their favorite genre.  There some very good fanfilms (and some not so good, just like fanfiction) out there!

Below are a couple of my favorite fanfilms from over the years. They are quite old now, going over a decade-and-a-half. These were before AI, and you can definitely feel the love that was put into these!

This first one, Reign of the Fallen, if I remember right, is from 2006, which makes it twenty years old. It has aged well, and is almost feature length (it is nearly an hour long):

This next one is also one of my favorites, and is also quite old, but very worthy!  Wrath of the Mandalorian:

Two force-sensitive fugitives, on the run from the New Jedi Order, seek refuge on the derelict world of Moraband, once known during ancient times as Korriban - homeworld of the extinct Sith species. Setting up camp in an old Sith Temple in the Valley of the Dark Lords, they find a holocron that does not appear to be as ancient as the rest of the surroundings.
